Take a commercial-grade tablet computer outside, and the screen will virtually disappear in the sunlight, something that does not occur with the Panasonic’s Toughbook touchscreen. Panasonic designs tablet PCs for use primarily outdoors, and it increases the lighting and contrast on the screen to make images, text, and other graphics show up easier. Using proprietary methods, Panasonic deflects the light from the sun slightly to improve the picture quality further.

The Toughbook 19 is the fully rugged tablet PC offered by Panasonic. The Panasonic Toughbook 19 features a magnesium alloy case along with increased shock protection for all of the internal components, including the hard drive, motherboard, disk drive, screen, and other cards. It provides all of this protection, yet weighs only five pounds. The screen swivels, allowing the computer to be used like a traditional laptop with a keyboard or as a tablet PC. The screen is moisture and dust resistant, as are the keyboard and touchpad.
